Is 2020 Hurricane Season Going to Be Better or Worse Than 2019?

Hurricane Season 2020

Batten down the hatches because, Dolly, the next hurricane after Cristobal, could be coming to town…at least according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that “predicts a 60% chance of an above-normal season.” Additionally, the Department of Atmospheric Science states that the Colorado State University Hurricane researchers “now call for a very active Atlantic Hurricane season.”

This is not to raise alarm but rather to help you take the necessary steps to protect your home, as well as the actions to take after a hurricane touches down. CORE Property Adjusters is here to help you develop a plan to keep your property secure and your family safe.

If you are located in a state that’s in the path hurricanes tend to take: Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Louisiana, then you know the drill and the importance of preparing for a potential hurricane. We don’t mean to suggest that you run out and buy all the water at the grocery store or to overstock on canned goods; let’s be honest you probably still have some from the 2018 hurricane, Michael.

Right now we’d like to discuss your most precious valuables, your family and your home.

Here are a few hurricane preparation tips as we move deeper into hurricane season:

  1. Make a disaster supplies kit.
  2. Create an emergency plan of action with your family.
  3. Make sure phones are charged and flashlights have fresh batteries.
  4. Make copies of your property records or export them onto an external hard drive.
  5. Clean gutters and clear away debris from drainage grates.
  6. Secure outside items and bring loose items indoors when wind picks up.

Should any damage occur to your property, go through this checklist as soon as it is safe to head outside:

  1. Document the damage through pictures or video right away.
  2. Contact your insurance company and keep records of all conversations.
  3. Elicit the help of CORE Public Adjusters, expert adjusters who will give you the most comprehensive estimate for the total cost of your damage.
